How Solar Works
What is Photo Voltaic Solar Energy and How Does It Work?
A Photo Voltaic Solar Energy System creates electricity using the Sun's energy. The process for converting the sun's energy into electricity is known as the photo voltaic process.
Here's how it works:
| Solar panels mounted on the roof absorb the sun's energy in the form of light. | ![]() |

Energy is collected in the form of a direct electric current (DC) which must be converted before it can be used.
| |
The DC power is sent to an inverter which converts it into AC power identical to that being sent to you from the utility grid.
| |
The AC power travels from the inverter to your electrical panel where it is now ready for use throughout your home.
| Any excess power produced by the solar modules flows into the grid through your electric meter, causing your meter to run backwards and gaining you a credit with the utility company. |
